Evolutionary science teaches us that all living systems must constantly assess their circumstances for threats and opportunities, and to creatively adapt to dynamic realities to advance their interests. For this reason, no commons is identical with another and no commons can simply "copy and paste" another model. This is also why the commons is "no panacea," as Elinor Ostrom has said. If local context and history matters, then any commons must evolve in and with those particular circumstances. Top-down policies and models cannot simply be imposed.
